Title:

Computing with intent

Abstract:

The "web" has helped to generate increasing interest in distributed computing - where computation results from complex interactions between logically distinct computational entities. Computation in an unpredictable and dynamic environment brings many challenges, especially if you want the results to be predictable in some sense. In the talk I'll describe some new(ish) ways of thinking about computation, with an eye to applications of the future where it may be useful to regard components in a system as representing human players, including a representation of their beliefs and their intentions.
