To celebrate the year 2000 the department instituted a series of talks known as the "Department Colloquium Series".

Please check the department's seminar web page to find out the titles and abstracts of the colloquia and to discover all seminars that are being held in the department.

2003 Colloquia List

  1. Prof Nalini Joshi 19 February

The series' express purpose is to showcase the best speakers from around Australia including those in other departments around campus, and international visitors to Melbourne asking them to give "colloquia" style talks of broad interest to all in the mathematical sciences. Their appeal to graduate and honours students by virtue of their clarity and level of exposition is a trait that this series wishes to promote.

Graduate students are expected to attend.

The Colloquium Series will endeavour to be held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. They will usually take place at 11am in Russell Love Theatre of the Richard Berry building (Mathematics and Statistics Department), of the University's campus in Parkville/Carlton.

A list of 2000 colloquia is available here.

A list of 2002 colloquia is available here.

During 2000, as a trial, we videotaped the colloquia and transferred the digital video to CDROM and to web streaming formats (with various compression factors). You may check out the web streaming versions here.
