UNIVERSITY MATHS OLYMPICS

The UMO was held at 1pm, Tuesday 16th September, in Richard Berry JH Michell Theatre. Something Less Stupid beat a host of other teams to take the top position.

Each year, MUMS holds an event known as the University Maths Olympics. This is a competition combining fast-paced running, lightning-quick problem solving, and the ol' hip-'n'-shoulder. To win, a team requires a generous mix of brains and brawn, in order to knockout (in more ways than one) their competitors.

Each team is split into two pairs, and a runner. The runner ferries questions between each pair and a marker. The problems are based more on lateral thinking than manual calculation. They require no knowledge of mathematics above high school level.

The competition lasts for approximately one hour, and prizes are awarded to the top three teams.

The University Maths Olympics is proudly sponsored by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. MUMS is grateful for their continued generosity. For more information, please see our sponsors page.
