Lie Algebroids and Uniformization

Abstract: By deforming certain connections on Lie algebroids, one can try to show that a given smooth manifold is uniform (or "geometric"). Here I will outline a proof of the classical Uniformization Theorem, classifying Riemann surfaces, using such an approach. My talk also serves as an introduction to Lie algebroids, about which I will assume no familiarity. Several important examples arising in differential geometry will be presented.
