Universal Ratios in Critical Phenomena

Abstract: The scaling form of the free energy near a critical point allows for the definition of various universal ratios of thermodynamical quantities which, characterise, together with the critical exponents, the universality classes. In the seminar we will argue, in particular, that the Universal Ratios are the most useful and efficient tools for the experimental identification of the classes of universality of critical phenomena. We will show how to compute them by using quantum field theory methods and, as an example, we will present the results for the class of universality of the Tricritical Ising Model in two dimensions.
