Abstract: Equivariant localisation is a powerful tool in topology. The motivating principle is that cohomological information about a space with the Lie group action is often encoded in the fixed points under a maximal torus. This course will be an introduction to these ideas, with particular emphasis on the case of Grassmannians, flag varieties and their Schubert varieties. A rough schedule (which will be modified based on the audience's background) is:
Second lecture: the localisation theorem and its proof. Examples of the localisation theorem for Grassmannians and flag varieties.
