# The ABC of the soliton equations (part II)

Abstract: I will talk about the tau functions of the KP, BKP and (if time permits,
which is not likely) CKP hierarchies, and particularly how they can be
constructed from the respective transformation groups GL($$\infty$$),
O($$\infty$$) and SP($$\infty$$). Explicit formulae will be given for these tau
functions: they are determinants, pfaffians and hafnians, respectively. I
will conclude with examples of quantities in quantum integrable models
which are specializations of these tau functions, via the Miwa change of
variables.
