Directed and multi-directed animals on the square lattice with next nearest neighbour bonds

Abstract: Let R be a directed lattice. A directed animal of source s on the lattice R is a finite set A of vertices containing s and such that every vertex of A can be reached from s by a directed path visiting only vertices of A. We are interested in directed animals in the square lattice with directions {W, NW, N, NE, E}. We show how to extend classical directed animal enumeration results to this lattice. We also introduce multi-directed animals, a generalisation of directed animals created by Bousquet-Mélou and Rechnitzer.
