NEAR ORDER STATISTICS AND RECORDS
Applied Statistics/Probability Seminar
by Tony Pakes
Abstract: There is loads of work on distributions and asymptotics of order statistics and records. This talk surveys results about a slowly growing sub area which looks at the number of observations within a fixed distance of an (upper) order statistic, or the number of observations near the nth record, and occurring between the nth and (n+1)st record times. The Poisson approximation to the binomial gives easy access to the asymptotics.
