BELZ Lecture Series

by Professor Chris Field

Institution: Dalhousie University, Canada
Date: Tue 13th February 2007
Time: 3:00 PM
Location: Old Geology Theatre 1, The University of Melbourne

Abstract: Will develop the theme of Biology as a rich source of data and interesting problems where the data is noisy and often multivariate. Over the four talks will look at diverse data sets and related
questions coming from Biology and discuss the issues of model building and inference for each case. In this first talk, will look at data from a Breeding Bird Atlas where the object is to construct reliable abundance estimates from noisy observer data.
