Abstract: We compare and contrast the action of charged and
neutral free fermions. We show how charged fermions can be
used to construct regular partitions, whilst neutral fermions can be used to construct strict partitions.
Following Okounkov and Reshetikhin, we re-derive MacMahon's generating function for plane partitions, and present a new generating function which 2-enumerates diagonally strict plane partitions.
