Some Statistics from Lattice Statistical Mechanics.

Abstract: Lattice statistical mechanics is based on the Gibbs specification for probability exp[-E(x1, ..xN)/kT]/Z for microstate x1,...xN. This talk looks at applications in which this form of probability distribution is applied in contexts that have no relation to actual temperature. Applications of Ising-like models in image processing are noted briefly. A special class of random fields, introduced by Pickard, is discussed as giving more tractable statistical models.
The connections to statistical mechanics are discussed and conjectures about higher-order generalisations proposed.
