Behrend Memorial Lecture

Professor Terence Tao

Institution: UCLA
Date: Mon 31st August 2009
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Copland Lecture Theatre, Economics and Commerce Building, The University of Melbourne

Abstract: Professor Terry Tao has been called the ‘Mozart of Mathematics’. In 2006, he was awarded the Fields Medal, considered the Nobel prize of mathematics. Supported by the Australian Mathematical Society, Clay Institute and the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute, Prof. Tao is visiting Australia as the Clay-Mahler Lecturer.

Prof. Tao will talk about some of his personal experiences on how the internet is transforming the way he and other mathematicians do research, from mundane tools as email, home pages and search engines, to blogs, pre–print servers, wikis, and more.
