Real World Maths in Action

Every two years, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics holds a one-day maths fair for Year 11 and 12 students and their teachers.The program is designed to both engage as well as inform. The two key events are: Mathematicians Exposed! and the Mathematics in Industry and Technology (MIT) Challenge. The main objectives of the fair are:

• To promote the importance and broad applications of mathematics and problem solving skills
• To raise awareness of career opportunities for mathematics and statistics graduates.

STAMP

STAMP (Statistics and Mathematics Postgraduate Department Group) was formed in 1999 within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at The University of Melbourne. Its aim is to encourage better interaction among postgraduates in the department through:

1. Assisting with the induction of new postgraduates in the department,
2. Organising seminars for postgraduates,
3. Organising social and sporting activities for postgraduates.
