## Alex Ghitza

I am a senior lecturer in Pure Mathematics at the University of Melbourne, in Australia.

My research is in **arithmetic algebraic geometry**, an area at the
intersection of **number theory** and **algebraic geometry**. I
am also interested in **computational aspects** of number theory,
algebraic geometry, representation theory, and other algebraic
topics.

I organise a weekly working Number Theory Seminar.

Michael Coons, Timothy Trudgian and I are organising a Number Theory session at the 8th Australia New Zealand Mathematics Convention.

#### Current teaching

**First semester 2014:**

Commutative and multilinear algebra MAST90025

**Second semester 2014:**

Group theory and linear algebra MAST20022

#### Free and open source software

I am an avid user of open source software. I try to contribute as often as I can, mostly to the mathematical software Sage.
