F.A.Q.


Important Notes:


1) Only University of Melbourne web pages are available in the computer labs. There is NO internet access to outside pages.

2) To save, transfer or print a document, please see "
How to save print files" on the desktop of any computer in both labs. Data must be saved in the Student Data folder. Do not save files on the PC desktop.

3) Students must be responsible for their own data. As D:\Student Data folder can be cleaned up overnight, please back up your data to your own device such as floppy disk or USB drive when finish using the PCs in the labs. You can also email to yourself with attachments.

Are there e-mail facilities in the Laboratories ?

Yes. The uni-wide web mail can be used in the lab. The link to Student Web Mail page can be found under the Bookmarks or Favorites menu of the browsers.

How to eject a USB drive

Click on the icon "Click here to eject USB drive" on desktop.

Can I print from the computer labs?

Yes. The detailed instructions for printing are in "How to save print files" document on desktop of each machine. The printing facility is available to serve students at any time when the labs are opened. The brief instructions are as followed:

Buy a print card from room G30

Print to "Room G65" or "Room 212" printer

Note down the computer number as labelled on the monitor (eg ...222)

Go to the Printer Kiosk at room G65 or in room 212

Insert card, select your print job number which ends with the number of the computer that you noted down

Click Print

Click Log Off and get your card back.

Print as instructed, but print job cannot be found at the Printer Kiosk

Make sure you go to the correct printer that the print job has been sent to "Room G65" or "Room212".

Where can I find something that I have lost in the laboratories?

Small items such as pens can be found in the "Lost Properties" box located in each lab. For more valuable items, please ask the General Office of Mathematics and Statistics Department at room G30. All the items found in the labs are normally delivered to the General Office.

Do the Laboratories open on weekends or after 6.00pm on weekdays?

No, the laboratories shut on weekends and the doors close automatically at 6:00pm each weekday. If you are looking for general computer facilities open during weekends or after hours, visit the ITC or CSHE labs. Minitab and Statplay are available at those labs.
