Title: An algebraic proof of Kodaira's vanishing theorem

Abstract: Results about the vanishing of sheaf cohomology groups have important consequences for the study of algebraic varieties. In this talk, we present an algebraic proof (following Esnault-Viehweg) of Kodaira's vanishing theorem, and we discuss some of the main ingredients: (logarithmic) de Rham complexes and cohomology, ample invertible sheaves and divisors, and cyclic covers.
