Maths rating: 0/5 to -5/5
Classic Cars: I have been the proud owner of a 1967 MGB GT since November 2000, from which time my dad and I have been restoring it. Initially planned to be an ongoing patch-up job, the spectre of rust was too much to ignore and it has turned into a full-scale, bare-metal quest for perfection. Unfortunately, school, work and travel have all had a hand in the increasingly preposterous time it has spent off the road - it will get there one day, just don't ask me when. It currently looks like this.
Cycling: Against all probability, I successfully completed the 210km ride in the 2007 Around the Bay. I strongly recommend Bicycle Victoria membership for all regular riders in the state - for the crash insurance if nothing else!
Football (a.k.a. soccer): When it comes to league competition, I follow Liverpool FC in the English Premier League.
Music: I'm into breaks, drum and base, hip hop, funk, soul, various other things that sound good at the time, and... classical. At home in Melbourne, I'm a loyal listener and subscriber to community radio station 3RRR, also highly recommended is 3PBS. Here's a fairly random and incomplete list of people/groups/labels whose work I enjoy: Andrew Friendly, Aphrodite, Aquasky, Atomic Hooligan, The Avalanches, Bassbin Twins, James Brown, The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method, Cut Chemist, De La Soul, DJ Fresh, Drumattic Twins, Dynamo Productions, Evil 9, The Fireballs, General Midi, Madox, Rennie Pilgrem, The Prodigy, The Rogue Element, Nina Simone, Slyde, DJ Andy Smith, Splitloop, Nick Thayer, Underworld, Finger Lickin' Records,Marine Parade, Thursday Club Recordings, assorted French rap ... and Gustav Mahler.
Running: A very informal interest, generally involving short(ish) distances. A good online resource can be found at Cool Running.
Snowboarding: This is courtesy of my time spent in Northern California. If you care about such things, my board is Elevation, bindings Ride and boots K2. In the event we ever get snow again, I'll be heading to Mounts Buller and Hotham and possibly escaping to various mountains on the south island of New Zealand. If we're talking northern hemisphere, I've been riding at Bear Valley in California and Mount Washington on Vancouver Island.
Travel: In 2004, I went on a big post-honours trip: volunteer work at Seaview Game and Lion Park in South Africa, football and friends in England, and family and language school in Italy. One day, I'll get around to putting some of my many photos online. In 2005, I spent five months studying in Davis, CA, USA - some photos from the trip can be found here. Not a whole lot of travel in 2006 - just a three week stint on Vancouver Island, Canada.
Wing Chun Kung Fu: Possibly the least attractive martial art in the world, but certainly very effective. It is mercifully free of belts/gradings and doesn't really suit competition, with most of its moves not being very sporting. Not the sort of style to do if your looking to show how tough and manly you are, but highly recommended if you actually want to be able to handle yourself in a difficult situation. Also, I don't know about anyone else, but after a hard day doing maths, I often feel the need to hit something.
