My research interests lie in the area of 3-manifold topology, with an emphasis on Heegaard splittings. My PhD research is currently focused on the study of one-sided Heegaard splittings. My academic supervisor is Prof. Hyam Rubinstein.

While a usual two-sided Heegaard splitting surface for an orientable 3-manifold separates the manifold into two handlebodies, a one-sided splitting surface is a non-separating, embedded, non-orientable surface that splits the manifold open into a single handlebody. Such splittings are less general than their two-sided counterparts, applying only to a large class of 3-manifolds, consequently, research in this area to date has been minimal.

I am currently investigating several general properties of one-sided splittings, with specific regard to any links that can be drawn with more recent advances in two-sided splitting theory.
