August 31, 2004 Mid-Semester Test This event will take place on Tuesday, October 12, 2004. Note that this will be a(n) (almost) 2 hours test (3:15 - 4:10 PM) covering all the material discussed in class up to that date, including the lectures given by Natashia.
There is no "sample" test, but (a hint!) the questions will be similar to the questions in the assignments and those discussed in class.
August 31, 2004 A message from Natashia regarding her Assignment
RE: Xpress-IVe assignment question
Dear 620-362 Class Member,
As those of you in Friday's class would have heard from Heng-Soon, getting the model right for the assignment question, especially for part (c), is not completely straightforward! For example, you cannot include in an integer linear programming model any "if (condition)" statement, if the condition depends on the value of a variable. There are no "if"s in linear programs!
I strongly advise you to read Winston's Section 9.2 thoroughly and carefully, and apply what you learn to ensure you do a good job of the assignment. In particular, you may find the sections on fixed-charge problems, and "either-or" constraints helpful.
Best wishes,
Natashia
