Title: New perspectives on hypersurface singularities
Speaker: Daniel Murfet (University of Southern California)
Abstract: Critical points of holomorphic functions are central objects in mathematics, and one of the most famous theorems about them is Arnold's ADE classification of the simple singularities in 1972. Even after decades of intensive study there are still interesting things to be discovered about these objects: I will present recent results on new relations among the simple singularities arising from bicategorical algebra and links between singularity theory, topological field theory and conformal field theory.
