Hints for Success
Common sense study techniques can make a big difference to your final result. We recommend revising each lecture briefly on the day it is given, and when possible again prior to the next lecture. Pick out exercises from the workbook relevant to the lecture and work steadily on them as part of your regular study, and in addition to your assignments.
A group spirit can help motivation and performance, so if possible form study groups with your fellow classmates. Tutorials provide a study group setting and are an integral part of the course. If you've encountered problems with your revision, you should note them down and ask your tutor in tutorials. You may also see the tutors of the Maths and Stats Learning Centre, or the Lecturer, during their duty hours (times are listed on this Web page). General feed back on the course may be communicated to your lecturer, tutor or to a staff-student liason representative.
If something major goes wrong, and you need to be absent for more than a couple of days, inform your lecturer or your tutor. If the matter is serious enough you should apply for special consideration at your Faculty office.
We hope that you will learn a lot in this subject. Mathematics can be difficult. It can also be enjoyable if you work hard at it. Doing this from the very beginning of the course is the sensible approach.
