Introduction to Operations Research
Semester I, 2008

Objectives:
This course is designed to give a general introduction to the methods and techniques of Operations Research, including: formulation of optimization problems, linear programming, sensitivity analysis, dynamic programming, and critical path method.

Organization:
There will be three one-hour lectures per week and a weekly tutorial.

Assignments:
There will be weekly assignments which will count for 10% of the overall mark.

Examination:
The result of a three hour examination in June will count for 90% of the total mark.

Prerequisites:
The official prerequisite for this subject is: 620-112, or 620-122, or 620-142, or 620-200, or 620-211. Students who do not comply with this requirement should contact the lecturer immediately.

Reference material:
The main reference material will be the Lecture Notes.

Contents:
See the Table of Contents of the Lecture Notes and the Foreword sections of the Lecture Notes.

First Class:
The first class will be held on Monday, March 3, 2008. Try to attend this class, as a number of important organisational matters will be discussed and decided upon.
