The Statistics and Mathematics Postgraduate departmental group (STAMP) was formed in 1999 and is a student run organisation at the University of Melbourne for postgraduate students working within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Based at the university's Parkville campus, STAMP is affiliated with the University of Melbourne Postgraduate Association (UMPA) through its Postgraduate Groups Scheme.

STAMP aims to support postgraduate candidates in the department by enhancing postgraduate life outside of the usual work and research. We organise various events from skills based seminars to purely social occasions.
STAMP seminars tend to be things that are useful to learn, but you won't learn about anywhere else in the department. We have sessions which help introduce various computer programs and sessions to help you study (such as talks on time management). STAMP seminars also provide an opportunity for any postgrad student to get up and talk in front of a 'friendly' audience. This is an ideal forum to practice talks to give at a conference - we can allocate you a time and invite (or not) any other members of the department you feel can assist with feedback. Less formally, if you have just learned something cool and would like to explain it to the world, we can also give you a soap-box.
In recognition of the fact that the postgrads within the department are often segregated by research area, STAMP runs a fortnightly Morning Tea, giving a common meeting ground for all postgrads. A largely social occasion, Morning Tea is a place to meet the other postgrads in the department and find out who is working on what at any one time. It is a chance to share anything from progress in your research to new ideas for STAMP. Morning Tea is usually very well attended and it certainly the place to start for new postgrads.
On the purely social side, STAMP runs various one-off and ongoing events. Activities have included sporting teams, trivia night participation, World Cup viewing nights and pool nights. For current information, see the When and Where page. Suggestions for future events are always welcome - please contact us by email.
